Description
Radium Saddle Tank Fuel Cell Conversion Kit
Application: Universal – motorsport vehicles running two Radium RA-Series fuel cells with a Radium FCST-X
Part Type: Saddle tank (dual fuel cell) conversion kit
Part Number: 20-0664
The Radium 20-0664 Saddle Tank Fuel Cell Conversion Kit is a fuel transfer system that lets two motorsport fuel cells run together in one vehicle, increasing fuel capacity while improving weight distribution. The cells can be positioned for balance and a low centre of gravity, mounted transversely or longitudinally – fittings and hoses for both layouts are included.
The FCST-X surge tank sits in the active cell with its rollover valve removed, so its vent port becomes an overflow passing air and fuel across to the passive cell. The fill plumbing TEE orientation sets which cell fills first (the active cell must fill just before the passive cell) and which side the fender filler goes on. The system works with both standard and dry break refuelling.
Key Features
- Dual Fuel Cells: Run two cells as one system; different capacities can be used
- Weight Distribution: Mount the cells for balance and a low centre of gravity
- Transverse or Longitudinal: Fittings and hoses for both layouts included
- Refuelling: Standard or dry break; 1.5in ID crossover hose suits any remote filler with a 1.5in OD barb
- FCST-X Based: Uses the Radium FCST-X as the central surge tank
What's Included
- 1.5in fuel fill crossover: stainless 1.5in OD slip-on TEE, 24AN aluminium elbow, 3-bolt aluminium flange, 2 x 1.5in ID clear crossover hose (3ft)
- 3/4in fuel vent crossover: 10AN ORB to 3/4in SAE male (transverse passive side), 10AN ORB swivel banjo (longitudinal passive side), 12AN ORB to 3/4in SAE male (active side), 2 x 3/4in SAE female to barb connectors, 3/4in ID black tubing (6ft)
- 8mm lift pump crossover: 4AN ORB to 8mm swivel banjo, 2AN ORB to 8mm SAE male, 8mm SAE female to barb connectors, 90° barbed elbow (longitudinal), 8mm ID black tubing (6ft)
- Lift pump hardware: 6AN ORB barbed fittings, lift pump mounts (shallow and mid-depth), electrical connectors, ring terminals, heat shrink, tubing, EFI clamps, zip ties, hat gasket and O-ring, screws
- Other hardware: gaskets, O-rings, button head screws, T-bolt and line clamps, pinch clamps, 5/16in and 3/4in SAE quick connect fittings, 3/4in SAE banjo, 24AN B-nut and wrench
Optional Parts
- Radium FCST-X, Fuel Cell Surge Tank (20-1990-00 / 20-1991-00 / 20-1992-00 / 20-1993-00) – required – the FCST-X used as the central surge tank (earlier non-X FCST not compatible)
- Radium Fuel Level Switch, 1/8" NPT (20-0461) – level switch that can trigger a relay or ECU input to control the lift pump
- Radium Fuel Level Diagnostic Indicator (20-0508) – diagnostic indicator for the level switch – warns when surge tank level drops 20% or more
- Radium Engineering FCST-X Lift Pump Mounts - Universal All Depths (20-1214) – lift pump mounts for deeper fuel cells
Important Notes
- Required, sold separately: two Radium RA-Series fuel cells (24-bolt 6x10 opening) with top flanges at the same height
- Required, sold separately: a Radium FCST-X – earlier non-X FCST models are not compatible as they lack the lift pump access handle
- Required, sold separately: at least 3 fuel pumps – 2 lift pumps and 1 surge tank pump; lift pumps must have built-in outlet check valves or they can back-feed and cause failures
- Required, sold separately: a remote filler and vent kit or remote mount refuelling kit (1.5in OD barb)
- Recommended: two Radium 0-90 ohm fuel level senders – in series they give a 0 (empty) to 180 (full) ohm range, or wired to separate ECU inputs the passive sender can switch off the passive lift pump
- The passive-side lift pump needs custom control logic (ECU or PDM); the active-side lift pump can be controlled by the 20-0461 level switch
- Radium's kit page says the 20-0461 switch fits a 1/8in NPT port on the surge tank underside plate, while the FCST-X page lists a 2AN ORB level switch port – confirm with iilumolab
- Installation by an experienced workshop is recommended; torque the 24 cell screws to 4.5Nm (40 in-lb) in an alternating cross pattern
- Installation instructions are available in the Instructions tab
