At idle, steady cruising and deceleration the PCV hoses see metered vacuum that would draw crankcase vapour, unspent fuel and oil sludge into the intake manifold – the catch can traps it first. Separating oil and water condensation from the crankcase gases keeps oil build-up out of the intake, intercooler, throttle body and intake manifold.
